FINLAND’S HONORARY COUNSEL CARL ANDERSON ESQ.
AWARDED FINNISH MEDAL IN NEW YORK CITY


On January 16, 2019, Manu Virtamo, Consul General of Finland in New York, with Maria Halava-Napoles, the Deputy Consul General present, on behalf of the President of Finland, Sauli Niinisto, awarded the Finnish medal, the Commander of the Order of the Lion of Finand, to Carl Anderson, Esq., Finland’s Honorary Consul in Connecticut. The award ceremony, conducted by Consul General Manu Virtamo, with his wife Liisa by his side, was followed by a sit down lunch.

Carl Anderson graduated from the University School of Law in 1967. He is certified as a civil trial specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Prior to his recent retirement, he was a member of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association and served as the President. He was a Trial Referee and Arbitrator/fact finder for the State of Connecticut, Superior Court, Civil Division. In addition to serving as the Honorary Consul of Finland for the State of Connecticut, he was the Chairman of the Voluntown Democratic Town Committee. He resided in Voluntown with his wife Karen and three children. Carl was the owner of the Tamarack Lodge in Voluntown, a member of Aura Seura and the Finnish American Heritage Society. His two sons, Christopher and Michael, practiced law with Carl in the Anderson Law Firm P.C., located in Norwich Connecticut, and took over the practice upon Carl’s retirement. Their practice covers eastern Connecticut and handles cases involving personal injury, worker’s compensation, and criminal defense. Carl’s daughter Kate Anderson-Beauparlant, MBA, worked in investment management in Boston for sixteen years before moving back to Voluntown to raise her family.

Car Anderson Esq. is a long time active member of the Finnish American Lawyer’s Association, FALA. In 2007 at a Finn-Funn weekend in Windsor Connecticut, the FALA, with then Consul General of Finland in New York, Osmo Lipponen present, presented a plaque to Carl Anderson to honor him for his work on behalf of the Finnish American community.This event was attended by the following FALA members: Robert Alan Saasto, Esq. President of FALA, with his wife Mary Ellen; Judge Elizabeth Pessala, Esq.,Westbury Village Court, NY; Nels Ylitalo, Esq., a Yale Law School graduate, the director of product strategy and regulatory solutions at FactSet Research Systems in Norwalk, CT. with his wife Susan, a Columbia Law School graduate, now a partner in the Trusts & Estates group at Day Pitney LLP, in Greenwich, CT, and New York City; and Carl’s two sons, Christopher Anderson, Esq. and Michael Anderson, Esq.
